Community guidelines

PawHub is a home for UK pet parents. These are the simple house rules that keep it kind, honest and useful for everyone.

Be warm and helpful

  • Assume the best of every poster.
  • Disagree with the idea, never the person.
  • Celebrate wins, offer support in tough moments — grief, illness and loss are welcome here.

Where things live on PawHub

Community is for people — stories, photos, questions, meetups. When you need the source of truth, jump to the right home:

  • Knowledge — editorial guides, health articles, UK regulations. Browse →
  • Directory & Services — verified vets, groomers, walkers, trainers. Browse →
  • Shows & official events — Crufts, DogFest and major UK events. Browse →
  • Deals — the only place for commercial offers and paid placement.

You can absolutely discuss businesses, places and events in Community — just don't use it as a listings board. We'll gently redirect posts that belong elsewhere.

Not a substitute for a vet

Peer tips are wonderful, but PawHub is not a veterinary service. For any health concern — however small — please contact a UK-registered vet. If you spot signs of an emergency, call your vet or an out-of-hours service immediately.

What isn't allowed

  • Sale of puppies, kittens or any live animals.
  • Breeding, stud or mating listings.
  • Rehoming that bypasses a registered rescue.
  • Content that promotes cruelty, aversive training, or dangerous breeds under UK law.
  • Medical, legal or financial advice presented as authoritative fact.
  • Spam, undisclosed advertising, affiliate dumps, or promotional accounts.
  • Personal attacks, hate speech, harassment or targeting of minors.

Photos, videos and privacy

  • Only post images and videos you own or have permission to share.
  • Blur or crop out other people (especially children) unless you have their consent.
  • Don't share other people's location, contact details, or private info.

How posts are moderated

Every post gets a moderation level based on its category:

  • Level 1Instant publish. Post appears in the public feed immediately. Still subject to reports and admin unpublish.
  • Level 2Instant publish + monitoring. Post appears immediately with a permanent contextual disclaimer (health, recommendation, memorial). Editing sends it back to the queue.
  • Level 3Admin review queue. Post is created with status 'pending' and never appears publicly until an admin approves. Editing an approved Level 3 post returns it to pending.

Editing a Level 2 or 3 post automatically returns it to the review queue.

Reporting, compliance & moderation

Any post or comment can be reported. Moderators review reports quickly and can approve, hide, or escalate content. Serious safety concerns are escalated within 24 hours.

What we check against:

  • Prohibited or abusive contentCruelty, threats, hate speech, harassment, self-harm content, or anything that endangers a person or animal.
  • Spam & hidden self-promotionRepetitive posting, undisclosed affiliate links, undeclared commercial interest, or driving traffic without adding value to the community.
  • Dangerous medical advicePosts presenting themselves as authoritative veterinary guidance, unregulated treatments, or urgent-case advice replacing a vet.
  • Privacy & personal-data exposureSharing another person's phone number, address, email, ID, or minors' details. Direct contact details are limited in Level 3 categories.
  • Misleading or commercial misuseFalse claims, bait-and-switch offers, undisclosed sponsorship, or using community posts as advertising.
  • Copyright-risk mediaImages, videos, or long text lifted from another creator without permission or licence.
  • Category misuse / canonical duplicationCommunity posts that behave like a directory listing, service booking, official event record, editorial guide, or deal — belongs in Directory, Services, Shows, Knowledge or Deals.
